BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is a unique program of the Ministry of Forests (MOF). Working collaboratively with regional and district operations, BCTS plans, develops, and auctions a substantial portion of the province’s annual available timber volume. BCTS operates as a for profit entity within a government organization. Its goal is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the Market Pricing System through auctions of timber harvested from British Columbia’s public land. BCTS operations are guided by three overarching principles, forest sector safety, reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and sustainable forest management.

This position is responsible for the acquisition of quality tree seedlings grown under contract at private nurseries and for providing expert advice and guidance to BCTS staff regarding seedlings and reforestation practices. The Specialist manages seedling supply and service contracts, conducts and provides direction respecting seedling quality inspections and assessment, and ensures the integrity, utility and accessibility of stock and seedlings data. The role includes building relationships with suppliers to ensure the quality, quantity and condition of seedlings and enhancing communications to BCTS staff throughout the province on seedling selection and reforestation practices.This Position also requires participation on working groups, along with presenting information to various groups.

Job Requirements:

• BSc. in Forestry, or other relevant field with a focus on forestry and 5 years of current progressive and directly related forestry experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Registered, or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Forester with the Association of B.C. Forest Professionals (ABCFP).
AND
• Experience in forest resource management.
• Experience with contract administration, monitoring and quality control.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
• Experience in forest resource management, specifically in reforestation and silviculture.
• Experience in testing and assessing tree seedlings and conducting statistical analysis.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
