The Team
At BC Timber Sales (in the Kamloops Business Area), our Engineering team is a dynamic group comprised of experienced professionals and enthusiastic newcomers, all eager to tackle the challenges of our business area. With a team of 8, including one supervisor and one engineering officer, we blend fresh perspectives with seasoned expertise. Over the past two years, this established team has been instrumental in setting up access to Timber Sale Licenses, maintaining roads to government standards, and properly deactivating roads no longer in use. Our team’s success is based on enthusiasm, work ethic, and collaboration with other teams. Maintaining a respectful and considerate work environment is an important core value in our team.
The Role
As an Engineering Technologist at BC Timber Sales, you will play a crucial role in shaping the infrastructure of our business area. Your main responsibilities include putting together contracts for road construction, maintenance, and deactivation, as well as managing these contracts and their associated budgets. Additionally, you'll participate in pre-sale discussions to help develop long term sales and access plans. This role directly impacts our clients by upholding project goals.
Candidates will be excited about this opportunity because our team is growing, providing ample chances to learn and improve existing systems for greater efficiency. You'll see the immediate impact of your work, with feedback and support from our supervisor and engineering officer. This position is field and office based and allows you to witness the tangible results of your contributions. You will have access to numerous resources including consultants and engineering branch experts. In addition to this you'll receive strong support from the Woodlands Manager and Timber Sales Manager, ensuring you have resources needed to succeed and make a significant impact.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Diploma in forest engineering, forest management or equivalent related field, plus three years of experience in a directly related operational field forestry activities.
OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience such as five years of experience in one or more area of operational field forestry activities
- Operational field forestry activities include the following:
- Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
- Cut-block development
- Forest road engineering
- Timber tenure development and administration
- Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals as a Registered Forest Technologist or equivalent.
- Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.
Preference may be given to candidates with one (1) or more of the following:
- Experience in contract or financial administration.
- Experience in forest road engineering such as road planning, construction, maintenance and deactivation.
Provisos:
- Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.
- Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
- Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work a number of days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established for similar vacancies within the BC Timber Sales Kamloops Business Area, (Kamloops, Merritt, 100 Mile House, Clearwater)
