Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution, known in Japan as Psalms of Planets Eureka Seven: Hi-Evolution (交響詩篇エウレカセブン ハイエボリューションKōkyōshihen Eureka Sebun: Haieboryūshon), is a anime film trilogy by Bones that serves as a combination of the original Eureka Seven anime series with the video games, manga, and other works under the Eureka Seven franchise with its own twist on the franchise in order to reboot it.
The story of Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution 1 opens with a prequel to the mainline TV series in high quality HD animation both hand drawn and digital. The second half is heavily edited recycled footage from the Charles and Ray Renton story arc of the mainline TV series but with context that will be relevant later in the Hi-Evolution movies.
Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution 2[]
The story focuses on Anemone as the title suggests, and undertakes tying all of the Eureka Seven anime, video game, manga, and lite novel franchises together into a single cohesive timeline making everything both relevant and explained in the story. Taking a darker tone in some parts but still using older footage from the mainline series to tie up some more loose ends not explained in Hi-Evolution 1.
Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution 3[]
The story focuses on Eureka now older and responsible for protecting a younger woman that looks strikingly like Eureka. Taking a much more darker tone than the first two Hi-Evolution movies and utilizing a higher budget, amazing upgraded big budget anime movie look with the latest techniques, along with a musical score to match the beautiful sound design, this is definitely an experience that has a very decent stand alone story that ties everything up towards the end which should please every Eureka Seven fan.

Many fans of the mainline Eureka Seven series have expressed mixed reactions to the Hi-Evolution movies due to the use of old format and outdated footage in what was supposed to be a reboot of the franchise. Many video reviews and articles regarding Hi-Evolution claim that this new trilogy of movies was done as a cash grab with little effort and only 15 minutes of good footage from part 1, and subpar animated original work in part 2 earning it varying degrees of bad review on rotten tomatoes and other review sites. On the flip side, there are fans who adore what they did with Hi-Evolution 2 and 3 and appreciate the new original animation as well as story direction that aims to bridge all of the Eureka Seven works together to form a cohesive united multiverse where everything is canon and the story moves from there. It is still under debate in the main Eureka Seven fandom if the Hi-Evolution movies should even be considered canon. A unanimous consensus on this matter has yet to be reached.
In the second part of the movie series, it shows that every single version of the Eureka Seven franchise is considered canon. By showing elements from the manga, the ova, the sequel series, the games, and more.
In the third part of the movie series, you see characters from almost every single part of the Eureka Seven franchise represented as real living breathing characters in the world as presented in the movie. Characters from the TV series and video games as well as from the Manga make appearances if only briefly.
In Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution 3, there is a montage scene where Eureka and Iris are fleeing while cutting to shots of their dead pursuer, hinting that older Eureka was fighting him off and killing him each time. In one of these scenes we get an almost identical shot for shot of the Molten Steel pit scene from Terminator 2, where the T-1000 falls into the Steal and Sara and John Conner are standing on a ledge watching from above with Eureka and Iris instead on the ledge watching as the dead pursuer is melting in the molten steal below.
